Real Estate Department

The Real Estate Department is delegated by the Navajo Nation business site leasing regulations to manage different functions related to the processing of business site leases.  For more information and to download the Navajo Nation business site leasing regulations, visit our resource page.

Pre-Business Site Lease

Business site leasing includes an environmental review of proposed businesses before a business site lease can be granted.  The environmental review is the responsibility of the Environmental Reviewer and the Archaeologist.  The environmental review involves a determination of compliance with the Navajo Nation Fish and Wildlife Service, Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency and applicable cultural resources regulations.  Click here for more information about the environmental review process and click here for information specific to the archaeology function of the Real Estate Department.

During the course of negotiation with perspective businesses for business site leases on the Navajo Nation, a rental is negotiated between the Navajo Nation and the prospective business.  Since the implementation of the Navajo Nation business site leasing regulations, rental rates are reviewed and approved by the staff appraiser at the Real Estate Department.  Click here to learn more about the appraisal function of the department.

It is important for business site surveys within the Navajo Nation conform to standards and procedures for best practice.  A proper survey will ensure the correct recording and management of land tracts within the Navajo Nation.  The real estate department has a GIS technician who reviews land surveys of prospective business sites.  Click here to learn more about the GIS function of the real estate department.

Post-Business Site Lease

One of the largest functions of the real estate department is business site lease management.  The real estate department has all powers necessary and proper to enforce the lease terms, laws, ordinances, regulations, rules, policies, and covenants, consistent with the business site leasing management plan.  The department's role is to implement these regulations and assuming the authorities of the Bureau of Indian Affairs on management and enforcement of business site leases.  Click here for information about RED business site lease compliance.

The real estate department is responsible for the coordination of accounting activities related to the management of these business site leases.  Click here to learn more about the RED accounting.
